SPLOTCHES

November 29, 2014

SIX WORDS INSPIRED FROM THE ABOVE PHOTO

1.  Mess
2. Tangled
3. Molecular Forensics
4. Phlebophilia
5. Ink
6. Jackson Pollack

Molecular forensics is a very complicated field of scientific research.  However molecular forensics isn't limited to scientists.  I wonder if Jackson Pollack, for example, studied the molecules and make-up of the paints he used in creating his art which resembled colorful messes akin to the black and white mess above.  Nothing like speculation creates the opportunity for a good story or meandering thought. I believe it would be fun to write a story about a teen-age superhero named Jackson who could see molecules and use that to solve crimes, relationship problems, and overcome his own obstacles to perceive a world so full of molecular chaos.  Jackson would have to be a little bit autistic to be able to focus like that, so maybe its time for a story about such a superhero. Of course, its a little disturbing that most television series about superhearoes (Flash, Buffy, Arrow, Heroes, and Archam) turn into soap operas and tangled romantic dramas.  Its probably in the molecular make-up of a good hero conflict.

So what this writing is developing into is a character sketch of Jackson.

1. Jackson can actually focus on the molecular patterns, activity, blue-prints, scheme, structure, and changes of any object, process, or event at will without the help of scientific instruments or lab processes.

2.  Jackson gets intense headaches after zooming in and out in complex cases.

3.  Jackson has difficulty relating to others who can't see, understand, or discuss the things he sees and studies.

4. Jackson is sexually active, and candid about it,  because it is necessary to maintain molecular balance and biological health for all humans.

5. Jackson is irritated easily by things that aren't scientific, based in fact, or inspired by fantasy.

5.  Jackson is bisexual, though he leans more towards gay tendencies ...stopwatch sounded here... because I think its appropriate to introduce a medical examiner and hero who represents the gay culture in a positive light.

6.  Works with his sister, Rebecca who he is both protective of, and extremely irritated by.  She has the unique ability to refocus Jackson's attention, emotions, and energies when he slips. She is also a knockout.

7.  Rebecca is the lead scientist in a research lab of a North University medical research department.

8. Tony, Jackson's opposite in every way, is intensely and intimately involved with Rebecca.  He is also the source for most of Rebecca' police, and government assignments.

9. Tony works as an FBI Liaison for the local police department.

10. Jackson is brilliant, an undergraduate student at the university, and the youngest member of the team.

11. Tony is often accompanied by Randall. Randall is unwillingly Jackson's addiction.  Though there is no sexual history at first between Randall and Jackson, an intense chemistry develops between them.  Jackson is fascinated by Randall, a pariah of physical and scientific perfection.

12. Randall is curious and subconsciously attracted to someone who can see the world in the way Jackson does.  They are both enchanted by one another.  Randall is a closet homosexual. Randall is also immortal, though that doesn't become obvious until the final season.  He cannot be killed.  Near death experiences are often forensically explained.

13. Shelly, Rebecca's graduate assistant, and Randall's girlfriend is often caught in the middle between Randall and Rebecca.

14.  Shelly has a friend who dies in the first season even though she is the first to exhibit superpowers other than Randall.  Maria can be invisible.  Jackson never accepts this because the molecular improbability of invisibility denies everything he knows about molecular bonds.

15. Shelly is sexually involved with Randall (openly) but she has a stalker who though never identified causes trauma for both Randall and Shelly and quickly becomes the archenemy of the team.

16. Shelly is also the conduit for bringing Jackson's social and academic  life into the scene because she insists that he be "involved" to avoid irritating the university, or affecting Rebecca's position.

17. Mallory is the biomedical research lab director.  She represents the beurocracy that impedes Jackson's process, but also permits him to use the lab despite Jackson's irreverence for the institutions rules, regulations and safeguards.

18.  Mallory is attracted to Jackson, and though he is not impressed by her, he uses her sex and affection to maintain molecular sexual and emotional health.

19. Ironically, Mallory just can't imagine life anywhere without Jackson, so despite his irreverence, and abuse, she keeps him around.

20. Mallory is strong and powerful, she eventually develops a super power of her own. (Chronokinesis- the ability to manipulate objects and events mentally from a different time.)

21.  Frank is Randall's and Tony's captain.  He pushes the characters to civic responsibilities which often conflict with university responsibilities.

The Energy Method to Writing requires use of a timer and one simple idea to springboard an outpouring of thoughts about or from that simple idea.

I came across the ENERGY METHOD while perusing a writing book which I picked up some years ago at a book sale or thrift shop.

The title of the book is The Playful Way to Serious Writing.

The author is Roberta Allen.

This blog is what stems from Roberta Allen's writing exercises.
